In Decent Shape: A Printing Station of the Left Behind, Ditched, Dumped, and Discarded
PRODUCTION HOURS: OPEN : 9AM OR 10AM === CLOSE ABOUT 5PM OR 6PM
In preparation for the group show TRESPASS, I listed production hours open to the public as I assembled the installation, In Decent Shape: A Printing Station of the Left Behind, Ditched, Dumped, and Discarded.
From the exhibition:
“Working with disposed construction materials and abandoned architectural fragments, Valdez attempts to reveal new topographies that were overlooked before. The process of marking, pressing, and rubbing by hand reveals recessed details and faint residues through ink applied to the surface and texture. Copies and transfers are accumulated for each remnant in contact with paper, speaking to the artist’s interest in the passing of time, memory, and the discovery of what is left behind.”
TRESPASS included new works by Daniel Haddad, Ted Kim, Malte Stiehl, and Tamara Becerra Valdez. Artist and curator, Jesse Malmed, contributed the following essay for the exhibition.
